09.29.09 - ONDOY: DAY THREE
These pictures were taken at the Ateneo College Covered Courts today.
So at 10am this morning, I went to the Ateneo Task Force relief efforts for the Ondoy victims and worked there ‘til about 1pm. After I visited MC to see the relief efforts being made there and to see how my teachers were. After, I went back to Ateneo with Kyle and Sam to continue helping. I was so surprised that when we got back the number of people that were there tripled! When we were there there were only several hundred people. But after coming back from MC, they announced that 2,500 people had helped throughout the whole day. I saw lots of old friends that I haven’t seen in a while, made new ones (hello tie-ers) and kept Kyle and Sam by my side. Saw lots of MC seniors there helping, it gave time for us to catch up and see how we’re all doing. There were lots of things going on at once. Some were sorting clothes, some were sorting medicine and some, like me, were packing bags filled with food and water. We’d celebrate after getting a pile of 1,000 bags done. In any given time there were at least 6 piles and one on going pile. Do the math, I don’t know exactly how many plastic bags were packed, but I know there were alot. We still need more though. I noticed every few minutes we’d have to stop packing food cause we would have to wait for more donations of water. So people, please, remember the relief center in Ateneo is in need of bottled water. If you have time, drop by MC (Miriam College) too, it’s right next door to Ateneo, and hard to miss. Just go in and drive up the driveway and drop your goods at the Miriam College High School courtyard. Donations in noodles, canned goods, toilet supplies, bottled water, clothes and medicine are badly needed. Also, a reminder to all MCHS seniors, the juniors who have lost their books in the flood are calling on us to donate our 3rd year books to them. That must also go for the other ates in our school, juniors donate your books to the sophomores and sophomores to the freshmen. There are so many ways we can help each other, we just need to find the right places to go to.
Hope to see you guys at MC and Ateneo tomorrow. If not, I’m counting on everyone to head off to other relief centers.
