Video Game “Medal of Honor: Warfighter” features Basilan mission vs Abu Sayyaf

Hunting down terrorists? It’s more fun in the Philippines!

The Electronic Arts’ reboot of the Medal of Honor video game franchise features a mission that takes place in Isabela City, Basilan. The players will take up the role of American Tier-1 Operatives sent into the city to rescue government workers taken hostage by terrorist group Abu Sayyaf.

This is not the first time this video game series has portrayed the Philippines. The first Medal of Honor (1999) had José Rizal as a playable character in the game’s head to head mode, which is odd given that the real José Rizal didn’t fight with guns (the game was set in Europe during WWII), and the fifth sequel, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun (2003), which had a mission called “The Fall of the Philippines” set soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
