Okay, I’m officially bored with summer. So here’s a little political satire for you guys to gnaw on while waiting for the election.
What exactly did Jejomar Binay, running-mate of convicted plunderer Joseph Estrada did other than being that mayor from Makati? Well, nothing that striking nor constructive I should bluntly say. Even when he sat two times (yes, two times) as Chairman of MMDA back in the 90’s, what he did while in that office is anything but note worthy, since these seat is more of a political payback from Cory and Erap respectively rather than an appointment because of competence. (Binay was a lawyer before he took this executive job)
Anywho, what irks me from his campaign is that he fallaciously claims that he can offer socialistic services like free education and free health care to the whole Philippines because he did it with Makati. That is a stupid and misleading equation because, first Makati is a fucking business district, i.e. tax-rich, his city has the capacity to give out those free services. Second, again, Makati is a financial sand box even before Binay, he really haven’t been that big and instrumental cause for her progress as he claimed. I think, quite frankly, we should be thanking the Ayalas rather than him. Third, socialism is a dangerous concept, especially for a third-world country like us, shit, we’re not Denmark for crying out loud, so please, he ought to stop feeding the masses of that silly ideology. Again, please, Mr. Binay, don’t fool us that your executive prowess lead to those free stuffs, and that you can offer these free stuffs, you simply haven’t and simply can’t.
What irks me further is his manipulation of the poor. Sure he wants to be politically correct (whatever that means) when he uses the term informal settlers rather than squatters, but seriously, what’s the difference? You don’t want to hurt their feelings? Big deal. It does not change the fact they are living sub-human lives, it does not change the fact it is illegal (and by mandated by the law, you should correct it as the law permits) and, finally, it does not change the fact that the population of squatters in your city tripled, if not quadrupled, in the past two decades.
You won three landslides because the steadily growing squatter population keeps voting for you perhaps as a sign of naive gratitude, since you’re that mayor that turns a blind eye from an illegal and dehumanizing activity like squatting. Now an executive position like the Mayor must execute a law even if it runs against his political ambitions, so please, if you don’t have at least that political will, do not run for a more higher executive office where more complex law are needed to be executed.
So there, nakakaasar lang. He still occupies the third slot among the VP in the polls, seriously, third, with Erap also on the third slot. Shit. This polling trend only shows that our voting population still lacks that political maturity to at least research if the claims of candidates are at least sound and at most true.
