No serious talks about politics, crimes, pollution, or corruption. Let’s set aside the negative things first and maybe start appreciating the little things that make Filipinos unique and fun. :) Well, here it goes, these are (for me) the simple things that make me happy and thankful that I’m a Filipino in the Philippines! Do you agree?
1. CHRISTMAS

Nothing beats a Pinoy celebration of Christmas — Simbang Gabi, Kris Kringles, Carolings, Lanterns, Lights and did I mention FOOD? Lots and lots of food? Despite facing financial difficulties, we Filipinos could always find a way to feel the holiday spirit of love and gift-giving during Christ’s day.
2. PO and OPO

These two short Pinoy words prove the respect and courtesy that we, Filipinos have. Being a member of the Pinoy youth, I’m proud I still say po and opo to adults, alongside other words of respect like: ate, kuya, paki-, and salamat.
3. THE BEACHES - Batangas, Bora, Palawan, Laguna, you name it!

I love it that I live in this country filled with majestic scenery, beaches, and tourist spots. Our country is truly blessed by Mother Nature, and we are lucky to be able to enjoy and take care of these beautiful sites.
4. ISAW!

One of the most common (and definitely tasty) street food here in Pinas. Oooh.. yummy isaw dipped in vinegar with lots of onions and spices, alongside a cold bottle of soda. Now that’s a Pinoy meryenda!
5. CLOSE FAMILY TIES

We pay close attention not only to our personal needs but most importantly to our family’s needs. As mush as possible, we want to eat together with the whole family. Amidst the busy schedule, we manage to spend time with our loved-ones. That’s just how we are.
6. PATINTERO

My favorite street game. No need for props. No need for electricity, just good old friends. Around the world. Patotot. Stepping. Back-touch. Familiar? :)
7. DIVISORIA

Yes, it might be smelly, it might be crowded, it might be a hot spot for pickpockets, but hey, who couldn’t resist bargains and haggling? With just the right pursuing words and an eye for quality and style, you can get amazing clothes, bags, and other fashion apparels in rock-bottom prices. Now that is Pinoy shopping!
8. PINOY CHARM AND HOSPITALITY
We are naturally cariñoso and cariñosa. Pinoys are usually known for our warm, sweet, caring, and hospitable personalities. And who couldn’t resist that sweet Pinoy smile coupled with a vibrant look in the eyes? Sooo Pinoy. :)
9. DIRTY ICE CREAM

We hear the bell and we come rushing out the door with coins in our pockets. Mangga, Tsokolate, Monggo, Ube, Keso — sweet treats for our sweet tooth.
10. ADOBO

Now this is really a Pinoy dish I’m thankful for! The mixed blend of soy sauce, meat, and spices — mouth-watering. Can I have another plate of rice? :)
